Afterpay Now In-Store at Square Merchants and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 5/17/22

  • Square announced its Afterpay buy now, pay later service is available to in-person point-of-sale merchants in the United States and Australia who use Square Point of Sale, Square for Retail, Square Appointments, or Square for Restaurants. In the first quarter, Square, a unit of Block Inc., said the average transaction size with Afterpay in both the U.S. and Australia was three times greater than non-BNPL purchases.
  • Shift4 Payments Inc. said the Wells Fargo Center, home to the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers, selected it to process payments for its online and in-person ticketing, food and beverage concessions, and retail sales. Shift4 also gained naming rights to the center’s exclusive event-level club, which will be renamed the Shift4 Club.
  • Cloud-based point-of-sale system maker Revel Systems announced an integration with DoorDash Drive, enabling restaurants to offer a delivery service as a replacement for in-house delivery fulfillment.
  • By topping the list in 2021, Wells Fargo is the biggest originator of transactions on the automated clearing house network for the 10th consecutive year, according to Nacha, the network’s governing body. Wells originated more than 7.7 billion payments last year, accounting for more than 26% of payments sent.
  • Arguing the company’s shares are undervalued, payments processor Priority Technology Holdings Inc. has approved the repurchase of up to $10 million of the company’s common stock.
  • Wirex, a digital-payments platform, said its Wirex Wallet has added the ability to buy cryptocurrency directly on several blockchains and to pay with Apple Pay and Google Pay. Users may now also store non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
  • MyCase, a provider of cloud-based digital services, including payments, to law firms, said it has acquired Docketwise, a platform serving immigration practitioners. Terms were not announced.
