Global Payments Notes Covid-19 Revenue Impact and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/7/20

  • Payments processor Global Payments Inc. reported it began to see a significant impact on its results in mid-March from the Covid-19 pandemic, and now expects first-quarter adjusted net revenue to be up “slightly” for the quarter year-over-year. Citing the unknown “duration and severity” of the pandemic on its business, Global Payments suspended its financial guidance for full-year 2020.
  • Celero Commerce announced the acquisition of fellow payments provider FlashBanc. Following the acquisition, Celero said it will serve approximately 28,000 merchants and process roughly $10 billion in annual payment volume. Celero will maintain operations out of FlashBanc’s two locations.
  • Mastercard Inc. still hopes to complete its planned $3.2 billion acquisition of the account-to-account businesses of Denmark-based Nets Group despite new scrutiny of the deal by European Commission competition authorities, Reuters reported. Antitrust officials in six countries say the deal could have an adverse effect on competition.
  • Processor Fiserv Inc. introduced TransArmor Personal Data Protection, an encryption and tokenization service for use with personally identifiable information.
  • Payables-automation provider Tipalti Inc. said it will waive its platform fee for one year for guilds, nonprofits, and trade groups as they send funds to members during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company did not give an estimate of what the waiver total will come to.
  • Boosted by shelter-in-place policies in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, most retail sectors experienced an average 74% increase in e-commerce sales in March compared to March 2019, with online gaming up 97%, according to a report from processor ACI Worldwide Inc. Online ticketing, travel, and dating services, however, are down 60%, 44%, and 8.9%, respectively, as consumers self-isolate.
  • Point-of-sale equipment maker Star Micronics said Addmi Inc., an online ordering and QR-code services provider, now supports multiple Star Micronics devices.
  • Remittance processor EMQ Ltd. launched a gateway in Canada to handle cross-border payments from that country. The overall digital-remittance market in Canada is expected to total $1.4 billion this year and $2 billion by 2023, the company said.
  • BlueSnap Inc. said it is part of the Nacha Preferred Partner program for digital commerce and business-to-business payments.
