CardFlight’s Stripe Integration Deal Aimed at Developers of In-App, Card-Present Payments

With an eye to easing the integration of EMV payment acceptance in mobile apps used for card-present transactions, mobile point-of-sale provider CardFlight now offers integration with Stripe, a payments provider specializing in online transactions.

Developers can use the CardFlight software development kit and gateway to add EMV acceptance to apps without having to complete the EMV certification process on their own, says Derek Webster, CardFlight founder and chief executive. The integration means online merchants now can accept card-present EMV transactions without incurring lengthy development times, he says.

Developers download the CardFlight SDK, which is available for iOS and Android devices, and typically can have the EMV integration completed in a couple of days, Webster tells Digital Transactions News. Completing the EMV certification on their own could take six to 12 months, he says.

CardFlight’s service also provide encryption and tokenization as it routes payment data from card reader to its gateway. The service is available now.

CardFlight’s integration puts its middleware in the developer’s app. The middleware then manages all of the communication with the card reader, ensuring all of the sensitive payment data is securely routed, Webster says.

“With the developer solution side of our business, we have a lot of customers that use Stripe as their merchant processor,” Webster says. The need to serve these merchants is twofold. “Some are quickly expanding into pop-up stores, and it’s logical for us to support full EMV processing as well.”

What CardFlight is doing is not dissimilar from other semi-integrated POS services, which place the payment-data management in a secure device, relieving the developer’s software from these tasks. That also can result in reducing the developer’s PCI data-security standard certification obligation.
