- Tablet-based point-of-sale provider ShopKeep Inc. announced it is introducing an Android version of its ShopKeep Register app, which up to now has been available only for Apple Inc.’s iOS operating system. The app will be available first on Clover devices from First Data Corp., which launched it for Clover Mini earlier this month and will make it available in the third quarter for the larger Clover Station device.
- Adobe Systems Inc., publisher of Photoshop, Acrobat and other software applications, said it has a deal to acquire e-commerce platform developer Magento Inc. for $1.68 billion; Adobe said Magento’s platform will be integrated into the Adobe Experience Cloud and provide business-to-business and business-to-consumer services, including payments.
- Shares of e-commerce platform and payments provider Shopify Inc. were trading down about 5% Tuesday morning after the news broke on Monday that Adobe agreed to acquire rival platform Magento from private-equity firm Permira.
- Kabbage Inc. plans to launch payment-processing services by year’s end, putting the small-business lender in more direct competition with PayPal Holdings Inc. and Square Inc., Reuters reported.
- GasBuddy LLC, a fuel-cost comparison service, launched the Perfect Pit Stop mobile-payment app, marking an expansion of its Pay With GasBuddy card program launched in September. The new app enables users to pay for fuel at more than 450 Love’s Travel Stop locations. GasBuddy did not say which services the app works with.
- Long-time Wells Fargo & Co. executive Steve Ellis is set to retire after 31 years at the bank. A former chairman of NACHA, the governing body for the nation’s automated clearing house network, Ellis most recently has been head of the Innovation Group at Wells.
