Shift4 Adds the Detroit Lions to Its Sports Portfolio; Remitly’s Sponsorship Deal in Soccer

Shift4 Payments Inc. expanded its portfolio of professional sports teams early Wednesday through a partnership with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. Shift4 will provide processing for game tickets and in-stadium commerce, including concession and merchandise sales, on game days.

The Lions will deploy Shift4’s SkyTab point-of-sale system for in-stadium purchases as well as ticket sales. Deploying Shift4’s technology will streamline ticket sales and in-stadium purchases, creating a better fan experience, according to Lions officials.

“By bringing ticketing, concessions, and retail into a single integrated solution, we’re simplifying operations and helping the Lions deliver an even more seamless game-day experience for their fans,” Shift4 chief commercial officer Michael Isaacman says in a statement.

Shift4 has built a strong portfolio of NFL teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts, as well as teams in other major U.S. professional sports leagues and colleges.

In related news, online remittance service Remitly has struck a multi-year sponsorship deal with LALIGA North America, the sponsorship arm of Spain’s LALIGA professional soccer league, in the United States, Canada, and Mexico for all commercial and development activities.

Under the terms of the deal, Remitly will sponsor pickup soccer events held throughout the United States and Canada as part of El Partidazo, a series of events organized by LALIGA in North America to engage and celebrate fans of the Spanish soccer league. El Partidazo includes soccer participation events for fans and watch parties for key LALIGA matches throughout the season.

As part of its sponsorship, Remitly will provide participants of the youth soccer pickup games with their own pickup soccer starter kits, which include a ball and cones. Remitly will also have a presence during LALIGA broadcasts in the U.S. and Canada through LED boards, which are large, digital displays that show a variety of information and advertisements. The boards are typically located around the perimeter of the field.

In addition, Remitly will have a 3D carpet presence, during select Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Atlético de Madrid matches, a LALIGA spokesperson says by email. 3D carpets are visually overlay sponsor messages and other advertising on the playing surface, usually behind the goal.

“As the trusted provider of digital financial services that transcend borders by empowering millions of customers to support their loved ones with confidence, Remitly is rooted in supporting families and communities,” the LALIGA spokesperson says. “The partnership with LALIGA across the U.S. and Canada will create new opportunities to support the immigrant community, particularly through soccer.”
