PayPal Faces Discrimination Lawsuit and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 1/6/25

  • An Asian-American businesswoman named Nisha Desai has sued PayPal Holdings Inc. on grounds of racial discrimination, alleging the company restricted some of a $535-million investment commitment to Black and Hispanic candidates. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, asks for unspecified damages and an order preventing PayPal from considering race in the investment program.
  • Elite, a provider of business technology to law firms, has acquired Tranch, a payments platform serving the same industry. Terms were not announced.
  • Garmin International Inc. launched its latest smart watch, the Instinct 3 Series, which among other features includes Garmin Pay, the company’s contactless-payment capability.
  • The Electronic Transactions Association, a trade group for the payments industry, announced industry leaders for some 14 committees.
  • Companjon, a Dublin-based insurance-technology firm, said it is working with Visa Inc. to offer purchase protection to Visa cardholders in European markets when travel plans are disrupted by weather.
