Kroger To Test Contactless Payment Acceptance and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/7/20

  • The Kroger Co. is testing contactless payments at some of its QFC (Quality Food Center) locations. The test includes acceptance of Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Fitbit Pay, mobile banking apps, and contactless NFC cards. Kroger already accepts its Kroger Pay app. The QFC division is based in Seattle.
  • ATM operator Cardtronics plc said its ATM operating revenues fell 31% in the second quarter to $222.8 million, down from $323.1 million a year ago. It had quarterly revenue of $233.2 million, a 31.6% decrease from $340.8 million a year ago. The company, which has more than 285,000 ATMs in its fleet, had a net loss of $1.9 million compared with a $10.5 million profit last year.
  • Business-to-business payments provider Fleetcor Technologies Inc. reported GAAP results showing revenue dropped 19% year-over-year to $525.1 million in the June quarter as net income fell 39% to $158.5 million as the company contended with the impact of Covid-19.
  • The Western Union Co. has expanded in Brazil and now offers its WU GlobalPay for FI platform for financial institutions that enables consumers to make international payments.
  • Forty-eight percent of consumers globally said they would reduce their cash use in the future, finds the latest research from Paysafe Group’s “Lost in Transaction” data. That compares to 51% of U.S. respondents who reduced their cash handling out of health concerns.
  • Olabisi Boyle, who had been vice president of connected commerce at Visa Inc., has joined Hyundai Motor America as vice president of product planning and mobility strategy. While at Visa, Boyle also was responsible for expanding Visa’s in-car payment technology.
