- Georgia State University announced that the new Georgia FinTech Academy, a talent-development initiative involving Georgia’s 26 public institutions of higher learning, will have physical locations at Georgia State and in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood. The FinTech Academy is supported by the Atlanta-based American Transaction Processors Coalition.
- One year after credit-reporting agency Equifax Inc. disclosed its data breach that compromised personal information on approximately 148 million consumers, the Government Accountability Office published a report about how hackers gained access to Equifax’s servers and the breach’s aftermath.
- Payrailz, a digital-payments provider, said Suncoast Credit Union has agreed to offer its services to Suncoast’s members. Services include peer-to-peer payments and consumer and business bill payment.
- A blockchain-based system called the Global Real-Time Authorization and Funds Transfers (GRAFT) network, which says it is aimed at a credit card-like payment experience at the point of sale, said it achieved its first end-to-end transaction under two seconds.
- Zoomdata Inc., which provides visualization software for business intelligence, announced Cielo S.A., a Brazilian payments system, is using its services to provide analytics on consumer financial use.
- Island Pay, a mobile-payment provider, debuted in the Bahamas. The service enables residents and tourists to make contactless payments between themselves or at participating Island Pay merchants.
