Fiserv Partners With NCR Atleos to Add Self-Service to Its CheckFreePay Bill Payment Network

Fiserv Inc. has expanded its CheckFreePay bill-payment network to include self-service capabilities through NCR Atleos ATMs.

CheckFreePay users will be able to pay their bills in cash at thousands of NCR Atleos ATM locations, including top-10 retailers, grocery stores, convenience stores, and pharmacies in the United States. Previously, ATMs that accepted cash for bill payment were located at banks and credit unions.

Adding a self-service option to its CheckFreePay network will enable merchants within the network to free up staff that previously handled in-person bill payments, thereby creating more operating efficiencies, Fiserv says. Once payment is completed, consumers will be issued a receipt. The CheckFreePay network has more than 30,000 bill-pay locations.

Consumers can search for CheckFreePay locations by referring to their statement or visiting the CheckFreePay payment locator Web site or their biller’s Web site.

“Many consumers prefer to pay bills in person in cash,” said Brian Seemann, senior vice president of Biller Solutions at Fiserv, in a statement. “Adding a self-service bill-payment option at thousands of Atleos ATM locations will expand consumer access to these capabilities while enhancing efficiency and increasing foot traffic for merchants.”

CheckFreePay, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiserv, processed 57 million U.S. self-service bill-payment transactions in 2023.

In related news, NCR Atleos reported revenue of $1.1 billion in 2023, a 3% increase from a year earlier. Recurring revenue totaled $777 million in 2023, a 10% increase from the previous year. NCR Atleos, which completed its spinoff from NCR Corp. in October, is projecting revenue of $4.2 billion to $4.4 billion for 2024.
