Dorsey Invests in Blockchain Start Up and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 3/15/18

  • Blockchain start-up Lightning Labs raised $2.5 million in seed financing from investors that included Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Square Inc. and Twitter Inc., CNBC reported. Lightning Labs is developing technology that it says will make Bitcoin transactions faster and cheaper. The Square Cash app supports Bitcoin.
  • BlockCypher, a blockchain Web-services and infrastructure provider, said its integration into Payza, which provides cross-border payments services, enables Payza users to send and receive cryptocurrencies to and from each other, spend these funds at 100,000 e-commerce retailers, and exchange their digital-currency funds into 25 fiat currencies.
  • Payments provider Payscout launched Condor, a payment service to aid debt-collection efforts.
  • Point-of-sale equipment maker Star Micronics announced its tablet-based mPOP POS system is integrated with Slatwall POS, a Web-based system from Slatwall Commerce, an e-commerce platform.
  • AvidXchange Inc., whose software allows businesses to automate accounts payable and payments, introduced what it says is the “first wave” of accounting-system integrations for its newly introduced spend-management system. At a $1.4 billion valuation, AvidXchange ranks ninth among payments-related unicorns, or privately held companies worth at least $1 billion.
  • Payment processor Worldpay Inc. said it is working with Chinese mobile-payment provider Lianlian Pay so that Worldpay’s settlement and pay-out capabilities include China’s yuan currency.
  • The National Retail Federation released its annual “The State of Retailing Online” study done in conjunction with research firm Forrester.
