C&H Merges with Mann and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/3/19

  • C&H Financial Services Inc. said it merged with Mann Merchant Processing Systems LLC to expand its East Coast operations and grow. The combined company will use the C&H brand. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Merchant acquirer Elavon Inc., a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp, acquired Gothenburg, Sweden-based payments provider Payius AB. Payius has been an Elavon-exclusive reseller since 2013, operating in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • Merchant processor Square Inc. said it is accepting payments for cannabidiol (CBD) products. Pricing is 3.9% of the sale plus 10 cents for card-present payments, 4.2% plus 30 cents for online and in-app sales, and 4.8% plus 15 cents for keyed-in and card-on-file transactions.
  • Bankrate.com released its 2019 survey of ATM fees that found the average ATM surcharge was $3.09, up from $3.02 in 2018. It also found the average cost of an out-of-network ATM withdrawal increased slightly to $4.72, up from $4.68. Houston, at $5.58, had the highest average out-of-network ATM fee.
  • The National Retail Federation predicts November-December holiday sales to grow between 3.8% and 4.2% from 2018’s $701.2 billion to hit $727.9 billion to $730.7 billion. The NRF’s forecast slightly exceeds the 3.7% average holiday spending growth rate for the last five years. The trade group is forecasting that online and other non-store sales, which are included in the total, to increase between 11% and 14% from last year’s $146.5 billion.
  • Gilbarco Veeder-Root said a line of electric-vehicle chargers it markets will offer contact and contactless payment options, including mobile-wallet acceptance at the device. A corresponding in-store system accepts payments for charging services.
  • NCR Corp. announced NCR Aloha Essentials, a subscription version of its popular POS system.
  • DonorsChoose.org, an education crowdfunding nonprofit, released an app for the Clover point-of-sale system that enables consumers to round up their purchases and donate the amount over their purchase total to local schools chosen by the business owner.
  • Moe’s Southwest Grill, McAlister’s Deli, and Schlotzsky’s provided an update on a breach they first announced in August. With the investigation nearly complete, the companies said malware to capture payment-card data was placed on various POS systems from April 11 to July 22, but was not found at all locations. At most locations, it was present only for a few weeks in July.
  • Allegiance Merchant Services named R. Scott McFarland president. McFarland previously worked at Payment Alliance International, where he most recently was chief revenue officer.
