Black Friday Traffic up 40% and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 12/6/21

  • Of the so-called Cyber 5 shopping days—Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday—Black Friday generated the most shopping traffic online last month, with traffic at its peak nearly 40% higher than the peak at Thanksgiving and 5% higher than on Cyber Monday, according to data from Fastly, an e-commerce platform provider.
  • Issuer processor Paymentology Ltd. said it is merging with rival Tutuka to create a provider that will enable banks and fintechs to issue and process Mastercard, Visa, and UnionPay cards in 49 countries. The new entity has taken the Paymentology name.
  • Square Inc.’s stock is trading at a 52-week low at mid-morning Monday after announcing late last week it is changing its name to Block Inc., effective Dec. 10.
  • Fast AF Inc., a provider of online-checkout technology, named Robert Mitchell as its first chief financial officer. Mitchell comes to the company from PayPal Holdings Inc., where he most recently served as CFO of the company’s Venmo business unit.
  • Campus-payments specialist Transact has named Autumn Flora chief marketing officer. Flora comes to the company from payments provider ACI Worldwide Inc.
