Eye on Cards: ConnexPay Adds Mobile Wallet Support; 23% Have More Than Three Cards

The United States is one of, if not the, most credit card-centric market so companies do all they can to meet consumers where they want to interact. That includes mobile wallets, which ConnexPay LLC, a payout specialist, is doing. It’s added virtual card support for mobile wallets, enabling them to be directly provisioned to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

Plano, Texas-based ConnexPay says payouts issued as virtual cards to these wallets will allow recipients to use those funds for tap-to-pay purchases, eliminating the need for a separate mobile phone app.

While virtual cards have typically granted businesses a lot of control over how payments are made, they have been largely limited to online and remote transactions, Ben Peters, ConnexPay chief executive, says in a statement. “By enabling virtual cards for mobile wallets, we’re extending that same control to in-person payments. A card that exists entirely in the digital world can now be used at the physical point of sale just like a physical card,” Peters says.

ConnexPay also says its issuing capabilities now include physical cards bearing the Mastercard Inc. mark. This is useful when a physical card is preferred or required and can be added to a client’s program without replacing or recreating it, ConnexPay says.

In related news, the number of U.S. consumers holding more than three credit cards totals 23%, according to a YouGov report.

Based on 19,108 rolling survey responses gathered from Sept. 2025 through Sept. 2026, the report also found that 60% of U.S. adults have at least one credit card.

Among those with three or more cards, 51% percent say each card’s unique benefit prompted them to collect cards with 42% also saying they wanted to use promotional offers on opening the cards. Thirty-seven percent cite having emergency backup cards as their motivation for holding that many credit cards.
