- Major credit card issuer Capital One Financial Corp. said it detected a data breach this month in which an intruder gained access to records affecting 100 million persons in the United States and 6 million in Canada. Affected data included such information as names, addresses, Zip Codes, and dates of birth, though the bank added some 140,000 Social Security numbers and 80,000 linked bank-account numbers were compromised. About 1 million Social Insurance numbers connected to Canadian cardholders were also accessed. The FBI has arrested the person responsible for the breach, the bank said.
- Canadian bedding and mattress retailer Sleep Country Canada Inc. has launched a pilot program to accept the Chinese mobile-payment services Alipay and WeChat Pay through alternative-payments provider SnapPay Inc.
- U.S. cross-border payments startup dLocal said it has expanded its coverage to Indonesia, Ecuador, and Bolivia, bringing to 15 the number of countries the service supports.
- Point-of-sale terminal provider and e-commerce payments processor Ingenico Group launched TravelHub, a service aimed at linking travel companies with Ingenico’s network of payment gateways across Asia, Latin America, and Europe.
- Bank Shot, a startup mobile app that handles real-estate payments such as earnest money deposits, rental payments, and real-estate commissions, expanded the services offered in its white-label version.
- Payments provider Payscout said it has become a principal member and global acquirer for China’s UnionPay International payments network.
- Green Dot Corp. launched its Unlimited Cash Back Bank Account by Green Dot Bank. The account provides a cash-back Visa debit card.
