PayByPhone Adds Apple Pay and other Digital Transactions News briefs

• The National Retail Federation and the Retail Industry Leaders Association on Tuesday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to let stand an appellate court’s ruling last June striking down the controversial 2012 settlement between merchants on the one side and Visa, Mastercard, and some big banks on the other in a long-running antitrust class action over credit card interchange. Some of the original plaintiffs appealed the appellate court’s ruling to the Supreme Court.

• PayByPhone, a mobile parking app, has integrated Apple Pay in Vancouver, British Columbia. The app launched in Vancouver in 2001, and is now used at “tens of thousands” of parking spaces in that city by more than half of all Lower Mainland households, PayByPhone Technologies Inc. says. The company, which overall claims 12.5 million users in North America, Europe, and Australia, was acquired in December by automaker Volkswagen AG.

• Credit-union services organization PSCU announced renewal agreements with eight of its owner credit unions for credit and debit card and bill-pay processing, and call-center support.

• Citcon, a Silicon Valley-based platform for mobile payments and marketing specializing in reaching Chinese travelers for global merchants, announced it has integrated the China-based Alipay and WeChat Pay mobile-payments systems.

• The Smart Card Alliance trade group announced the 2017 chairpersons of its payments, mobile, and transportation councils.

• Radial, a provider of payments and logistics services for omnicommerce merchants, appointed Matthew J. Espe chief executive officer. Espe comes to the company from building-supplies maker Armstrong World Industries Inc. Tobias Hartmann will stay on as president.
