Payroc Acquires Gateway Payments and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/23/20

  • Payroc LLC said it acquired Gateway Payments LLC, an independent sales organization with merchants primarily along the Gulf of Mexico coast. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Weave Communications Inc., a provider of payments and other services for small businesses, said its Weave Lite tool set will be offered free for 90 days. Weave Lite includes a text-to-pay capability.
  • The Alaska Legislature passed a bill allowing surcharges on cross-border transactions at retail ATMs, the National ATM Council reported.
  • Mercator Advisory Group released its “ATMs: No Fee for Me” report.
  • Store card processor Alliance Data said its Card Services unit has started a “recession-ready program” to handle the impact of lower card-based sales and higher delinquencies in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The company reported the unit’s revenue rose 5% in the first quarter to $1.18 billion. Its overall delinquency rate went up 20 basis points to 6%. Total revenue for the company came to $1.38 billion, up 4% year-over-year.
  • Meta Financial Group Inc., parent company of prepaid card issuer MetaBank N.A., reported net income of $52.3 million for the quarter ended March 31, up from $32.1 million a year earlier. The company said MetaBank, which effective April 1 converted from a federal thrift charter to a national bank charter, added Visa Direct to its faster-payments platform, which also features Mastercard Send and automated clearing house and wire transfers.
  • ACI Worldwide Inc. said it expects its first-quarter revenue to be more than $290 million, which is within its previously issued guidance of between $285 million and $295 million.
  • The Western Union Co. expanded its use of real-time payments and said its capabilities for person-to-person cross-border payments are available in 50 nations.
  • NCS Solutions Inc., a provider of contribution envelopes for churches, launched its Contribution Relief Program, which allows churches to receive donations via an online platform as well as through pre-addressed envelopes. The program, designed in response to restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 crisis, has been developed with payments provider Pineapple Payments.
  • The parking-payment app PayByPhone said it will match donations made through its app to ChefsForAmerica, which is working to bring meals to persons affected by the novel coronavirus or battling to contain it.
  • Gift card manufacturer NGC, formerly National Gift Cards, said it is producing customizable greeting cards to go with gift cards intended for companies wishing to thank employees and others working against the effects of the Covid-19 crisis.
