PayPal Teams with Commerce for BigCommerce Payments

Already known for online payments, PayPal Holdings Inc. is prepping another online-acceptance service, this one for merchants using the BigCommerce e-commerce platform.

Announced Monday, the new service will be embedded into the BigCommerce platform under the BigCommerce Payments moniker. It is expected to launch in the United States in 2026, followed by an international expansion.

Austin, Texas-based Commerce.com Inc., parent of BigCommerce, says the embedded payment service draws on more than 10 years of partnership with San Jose, Calif.-based PayPal. BigCommerce Payments will be an optional service offering online payment processing via PayPal and the digital wallet’s buy now, pay later service, Pay Later.

Though the new service is cobranded and embedded into BigCommerce, the merchant’s payment relationship will be with PayPal, Commerce says. It also will include a dashboard access to enable merchants to manage and monitor their payments and balance activity. Among these tools are real-time balances, the ability to top up and issue payouts and monitor bank and card connections, and currency management.

Commerce says the embedded-payment service will mirror key capabilities of a merchant’s PayPal dashboard, reducing the need for merchants to manage their payments by toggling between systems.

Commerce also says merchants already using PayPal Complete Payments, a payment service designed for small and mid-size businesses, will be able to migrate to BigCommerce payments.

“By embedding PayPal’s trusted payment solutions directly into our platform, we will give merchants more control, visibility, and flexibility to grow their businesses with confidence,” Travis Hess, Commerce chief executive, says in a statement.
