- PayPal Holdings Inc.’s shares fell early Friday following news reports late Thursday that Stripe and Advent have abandoned their pursuit of the payments giant. PayPal’s board reportedly spurned the Stripe/Advent offer of $53 billion, or $60.50 per share, as too low. PayPal’s shares were trading at $61.47 at the market’s close Thursday.
- Some 47% of merchants chose access to richer payments data as the top benefit of payments orchestration, far outranking the 19% selecting reduced cost through competitive routing, according to a report from processor ACI Worldwide Inc. The research effort, funded by ACI and executed by Retail Systems, embraced 203 payments professionals at 148 retail companies in 18 markets in the U.S. and Europe.
- Canadian payments platform Helcim raised $53 million in a Series C funding round led by Business Development Bank’s Growth Venture Fund. The round raises Helcim’s valuation to $250 million, up from $97 million at the time of a 2024 Series B round. The company says it processes for 22,000 businesses.
- Mastercard Inc. said it and QNB Group, a financial institution in the Middle East and Africa, completed the first international card payments in more than 15 years in Syria.
- A partnership between stablecoin platform Circle Internet and England’s Chelsea Football Club will feature the lettering “USDC” on the front of Chelsea’s uniforms, the companies announced. Circle is the issuer of the USDC stablecoin.
- Curve Dental, a payments and business-management software provider for dental practices, appointed Luke Anderson chief product officer, a promotion from his role as senior vice president of product.
