Count Talus among the latest payments companies to adopt softPOS technology, which enables merchants to accept contactless payments with no special hardware. In related news, Oracle Corp. said its Oracle Payments service is now available in Canada and issued several updates to the service.
Dallas-based Talus says its incorporation of softPOS technology from Ingenico will enable merchants to use mobile phones to accept contactless payments without connecting a separate card reader to the phone. Talus says the service can work with any NFC-equipped device. Typically, the merchant must run a dedicated app on the device to securely accept these transactions. Tap to Pay on iPhone and Tap to Pay on Android are common programs for softPOS devices.
By using Ingenico’s technology, the Talus service reduces the logistics and costs of shipping and setting up point-of-sale devices for merchants, along with enabling instant activation of the softPOS capability. “In addition to accepting payments, the application empowers business owners to manage inventory, track customers, and view real-time insights, all on a mobile device, backed by a full Web version,” Talus says.

In related news, Oracle says the move into Canada for Oracle Payments brings local compliance, preferred payment methods, and local tax-regulation support. It will be available in coming months to hospitality merchants.
Austin, Texas-based Oracle also issued several updates for Oracle Payments. These include the ability for consumers to make in-terminal charitable donations and a way for hotels to make remote, pre-arrival, and last-minute payments easier for their guests.
Other updates include support for more venues, such as spas, gift shops, parking, and other on-site sales locations. New support for the Verifone M450 and the Adyen AMS1 POS terminals has been added.
