Eye on Acquiring: EMV Chip Card Acceptance on the Mind

As Transact 15, the Electronic Transactions Association’s annual conference held this year in San Francisco gets under way, acquiring industry vendors and companies are releasing a bevy of news.

Among the vendors making announcements is Clearent LLC, a payment-services company based in Clayton, Mo. Clearent says it will resell CardFlight Inc.’s mobile point-of-sale service SwipeSimple, which includes encrypted mobile card readers, iOS and Android app, reporting tools for merchants and onboarding and portfolio management Web site for resellers. CardFlight recently introduced an EMV-ready mPOS reader that it expects to offer in the second quarter.

France-based POS terminal maker Ingenico says its Ingenico RP450c mobile reader that accepts EMV, magnetic stripe, and contactless transactions is now available to U.S. resellers. The reader, which can use a smart phone or tablet’s audio jack or Bluetooth to connect to the mobile device, is certified for Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc. contactless payments. It also can be rebranded with a merchant’s or reseller’s logo, Ingenico says.

Ingenico also announced the availability of a Wi-Fi-enabled mobile payment terminal from its iWL series that is suited for tableside transactions. The terminal will be sold directly to large merchants and through independent sales organizations and acquirers that resell Ingenico equipment.

Acquirer TransFirst LLC says it has certified VeriFone Systems Inc.’s Secure Commerce Architecture, which means that the Verifone VX 520 POS terminal and VX 805 PIN pad can connect directly to TransFirst’s Transaction Express payment-processing platform.

Also related to Verifone, Moneris Solutions Corp. says it will exclusively offer its U.S. merchants the Verifone VX 520 POS terminal for EMV transactions. Moneris expects to begin selling the device in May.
