Ensenta Acquisition Will Make Jack Henry a Major Player in Remote Deposit Capture

Processor Jack Henry & Associates Inc. announced late Tuesday that it has a deal to acquire Ensenta Corp., a Redwood Shores, Calif.-based provider of remote deposit capture and payment and risk-control services.

Founded in 2001, Ensenta provides more than 1,100 financial institutions and government agencies with software-as-a-service products distributed via ATMs, mobile devices, online desktop computers, and merchant and branch channels, according to a news release. Combined, Jack Henry and Ensenta will collectively support approximately 2,300 financial institutions with consumer remote deposit capture services.

“This acquisition positions Jack Henry & Associates as the largest provider of consumer remote deposit solutions in the industry while significantly expanding the payment options we can offer to small businesses,” David Foss, Jack Henry’s president and chief executive, said in a statement. “Additionally, through this acquisition we will more than double the number of credit unions served by our Enterprise Payment Solutions group, opening up new relationships and cross-selling opportunities in the credit-union market.”

Monett, Mo.-based Jack Henry currently counts 9,000 community banks and credit unions as customers of its core banking, payment, or other services.

Jack Henry “will provide us with access to significant resources for accelerating our innovation initiatives and an exciting growth opportunity for our clients, our people, and our products,” Ensenta CEO Edward Viera said in a statement.

Terms of the acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approvals, were not announced. The companies expect the deal to close in December.
