Consumer Spending Moderates in October And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 11/10/22

  • Overall consumer spending per household moderated in October compared to September, up 2.9% year-over-year vs. 3.2%, according to a study from Bank of America Institute. Still, total transactions for the bank—cards, ACH, wires, bill pay, P2P, cash, and checks—increased 9%.
  • Payments provider Green Dot Corp. reported consolidated gross dollar volume of $18.7 billion for the September quarter, up 6% year-over-year. Active accounts fell to 4.3 million from 5.37 million. Operating revenue for the quarter totaled $343.7 million, up slightly from $339.5 million 2021’s third quarter.
  • Priority Technology Holdings Inc. posted revenue of $166.4 million in the third quarter, up 22.8% from $135.5 million in the same period a year ago. Priority had a $792,000 loss for the quarter, broader than the $549,000 loss a year ago.
  • Payments provider Usio Inc. said it had $16.4 million in revenue in the 2022 third quarter, up 3.8% from $15.8 million in the year-ago quarter. It had a $1.8 million loss compared with a $141,234 profit in the 2021 third quarter.
  • Revel Systems said Rave Restaurant Group brand Pizza Inn will use the Revel Enterprise point-of-sale system. Rave said it has 128 domestic and 33 international Pizza Inn locations.
  • Shift4 Payments Inc. debuted an online payments platform that comes with developer tools to support e-commerce merchants. The platform supports 24 languages, more than 160 currencies, and all major card types.
  • Buy now, pay later travel specialist Uplift announced it is an accepted payment method by Airlines Reporting Corp. via UATP.
  • BNPL provider Sezzle Inc. said its payment service is an option in Sensepass, a service that enables retailers to accept most types of digital payments.
  • New Twitter owner Elon Musk appears to suggest payments could become part of the social media platform, according to a BGR.com report. That could include peer-to-peer payments.
  • U.S.-based payments provider Euronet Worldwide Inc. agreed to work with Africa Electronic Trade Group to build a real-time gateway for cross-border payments in Africa.
