SWIFT in U.S. Faster Payments Offer and other Digital Transactions News briefs

  • The international financial-messaging service SWIFT is set to offer a gateway for U.S. financial institutions to link to a real-time payments facility offered by The Clearing House, a payments company owned by major U.S. banks.
  • Team One Credit Union, a Michigan financial institution, has added Bukoski Agency, a fuel retailer, to its list of clients for mShift Inc.’s AnyWhereMobile mobile-payments service. The wallet works via bar codes at the pump and in-store and runs transactions on the automated clearing house. Bukoski Agency operates four Sunoco stations.
  • Payments provider Bluefin Payment Systems announced a partnership with software developer ACEware Systems Inc. to offer Bluefin’s point-to-point encryption service to its users.
  • Apple Inc.’s Apple Pay service has been excluded from an app that allows users of Beijing’s public-transport system to make mobile payments, according to the Financial Times, which says the exclusion is tied to an Apple policy requiring all iPhone-based contactless payments to run through Apple Pay.
  • EasyPark, which offers a mobile app for parking and payment in Vancouver, British Columbia, has agreed to offer its customers digital gift cards through the CashStar Commerce platform.
  • Care2, a social network for activists, is circulating a petition asking Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc. to block transactions for white supremacist David Duke’s Web site. The action comes in the wake of weekend violence in Charlottesville, Va., against anti-racist protestors. More than 4,000 have signed the petition so far, Care2 says.
  • Georgia Power has launched a text-to-find feature allowing customers to find an authorized bill-payment location by texting GPPay to 99123. The text will prompt a response with a link to an online customer-care payment locator.
  • The National Golf Course Owners Association has named Total System Services Inc. (TSYS) its official payment-processing partner. Members will be encouraged to use TSYS to process payments for online bookings of tee times and for on-site merchandise.
