Square Adds Payroll Services and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 9/26/18

  • Payment gateway USAePay completed EMV certification for First Data Corp.’s Rapid Connect platform. USAePay said the certification enables merchants to accept EMV payments, particularly EMV PIN-debit transactions, via its mobile application.
  • First Data Corp. launched a service for card issuers called FirstSense that combines threat intelligence with the company’s fraud-detection and transaction-authorization capabilities to pinpoint at-risk payment cards.
  • Merchant processor Square Inc. introduced Square Payroll App, a mobile-enabled service for businesses to manage payrolls. The app is integrated with other Square business-management applications.
  • The Western Union Co. is mulling the sale of its business-payments unit, the Bloomberg news service reported. The unit helps small and mid-size U.S. businesses transact with overseas suppliers in local currencies without losing money on exchange rates, but recent tax-code changes have hurt its economics, according to Bloomberg.
  • Fleet card issuer WEX Inc. announced an integration in Canada with processor Moneris Solutions Corp. that will allow petroleum businesses to accept WEX cards.
  • Forter Inc., which provides fraud-prevention software for merchants, announced a $50 million Series D financing round led by March Capital Partners.
  • Payment processor JetPay Corp. named veteran industry executive Laurence L. Stone as chairman of its board of directors, replacing Bipin C. Shah, who had been chairman since 2010. Stone, who joined JetPay’s board in October 2016, was a principal with Mercury Payment Systems, now part of Worldpay Inc., and earlier founded the independent sales organizations Card Payment Services and Card Payment Systems.
