Priority Buys POS Software Makers and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/20/18

  • Priority Technology Holdings Inc., the new corporate name for Priority Payment Systems following a deal with M I Acquisitions Inc., announced the acquisition of RadPad and Landlord Station, business software for landlords.
  • Just a day after the FBI warned bankers about a looming malware scheme to make ATMs dispense cash to fraudulent card users, India’s Cosmos Bank sustained about $11.5 million in illicit withdrawals from ATMs in 28 countries and $2 million in fraudulent transfers through a two-pronged attack, KrebsOnSecurity reported.
  • Fitbit Inc. launched its Charge 3 wearable fitness tracker, which features Fitbit Pay, the company’s contactless-payment capability supported by more than 100 financial institutions in 18 countries. The device sells for $150, though versions including Fitbit Pay are $170, and will be available in stores starting in October.
  • Prepaid card specialist Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc. and lottery-technology provider Linq3 Technologies Inc. have teamed on a digital lottery card for the Powerball and Mega Millions lotteries in Ohio. The cards are available at Buehler’s, Giant Eagle, and Kroger stores in the state.
  • China-based Ant Financial Services Group’s Alipay mobile-payment service said it launched a paperless tax-refund service with Global Tax Free (GTF) that enables Chinese travelers in South Korea to get refunds on value-added taxes and related duties through their Alipay app. The Korean service follows Alipay’s early 2017 introduction of a real-time tax refund service in Europe that enables users to instantly receive tax rebates in their Alipay accounts after scanning their Alipay QR code at airport tax counters.
