iPayment Selects Apriva for Mobile POS Service Targeting Smaller Businesses

Merchant processor iPayment Inc. announced Monday it will offer a white-label version of Apriva’s AprivaPay Plus to small and mid-size merchants.

Dubbed iPayment MobilePay, the mobile point-of-sale service uses AprivaPay Plus, mPOS software developed by Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Apriva. Merchants can use the service with iOS, Android, or Amazon Fire mobile devices to accept EMV chip cards and magnetic stripe cards.

New York City-based iPayment, which serves more than 150,000 merchants, is targeting small and mid-size sellers and will sell the service through its direct sales staff and via its independent sales organizations and agent partners, says Jenn Reichenbacher, iPayment vice president of marketing and product delivery, in an email. Merchants can choose from EMV-enabled or non-EMV-enabled hardware, she says.

IPayment says it selected Apriva over other vendors, and over developing an mPOS service on its own, for a couple of reasons. The two companies already have a relationship and the Apriva product was “best aligned with the needs of our sales channels and our [small and medium-size] customers, while providing us with flexibility and customization capabilities,” Reichenbacher says.

Apriva launched AprivaPay Plus in 2010. It licenses AprivaPay Plus to other processors, including Global Payments Inc., which began offering its white-labeled version in 2015.
