Glance Pay Marks Its U.S. Debut With California Merchants

Glance Pay, a mobile-payment service that had only been available in Canada, is now available for U.S. consumers and merchants, Glance Technologies Inc. announced Wednesday.

Vancouver, British Columbia-based Glance says Glance Pay is accepted at 14 merchant locations, ranging from restaurants and food trucks to salons and service providers, across California.

Glance Pay enables consumers to pay without waiting in a checkout line or for the server to collect a payment card. In one example, consumers snap a photo of the bill at a participating restaurant. Within the Glance Pay app, she enters the tab and applicable tip amount and then taps pay. Payment sources can be a Visa Inc., Mastercard Inc., or American Express Co. card. There is no consumer fee to use the app.

“The U.S. is one of the largest marketplaces in the world, and we are thrilled to now be live there,” Desmond Griffin, Glance chief executive, said in a statement. “We know the efficiency and customer retention our technology can bring to all kinds of businesses, and we are focused on putting that value in as many hands as possible.”

In November, Glance Technologies updated the Glance Pay Merchant app that enabled merchants to accept Glance payments and rewards with no custom hardware.
