15 Campuses Adding Google Pay Support for Student IDs

College and university payment and identity-services provider Transact Campus Inc. announced it is adding support for Google Pay, enabling eligible students to use Google Pay on campus.

Phoenix-based Transact Campus said its Transact Mobile Credential for Google Pay, which is the mobile-payment app on most Android smart phones, will be used at 15 higher education institutions, including Georgetown University, Temple University, and Arkansas State University.

Students with Google Pay set up on their phones will present the phones to near-field communication-enabled readers on campus to complete transactions, such as bookstore purchases or enabling access to a building. The Transact Mobile Credential works regardless of which Android phone a student uses.

Transact Campus said its Transact Mobile Credential is used by nearly 80% of eligible users on campuses. In 2018, Transact Campus announced support for student IDs in Apple Wallet.

“We are thrilled to be one of the first schools in the country to deploy Transact Mobile Credential for Google Pay,” Sheryl Puckett, director of card services at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, said in a statement. “Partnering with Transact has been vital in our journey towards ubiquitous support for mobile credential use all across campus.”
